Wow, we’ve made it to the end of another week of writing exercises, prompts and even advice. As an end of the week treat we have a creative writing prompt in the form of random phrases, which one of my absolute favorites as far as words prompts for writing go. The idea with this creative writing exercise is that you are given a list of ten randomly constructed phrases that you must then string together into a short story, piece of flash fiction or even a poem. Easy, right? You bet!
The random phrases:
Define the characteristic
That mountain realness
Morally grating rent
Involved in temptation
Followed by indeterminate wince
Summary stoop
Useful nursing
Willed cowardice
Instructed to be gracious
Ouch, an interrupted greeting
The instructions:
Go through the above list of phrases and try to see, hear or simply imagine the story in the blank space between. Once you think you have it (or know you have it) start writing and don’t stop for at least 30 minutes. Allow for no interruptions and try to come away with a rough draft that you can later (a few days or so) edit into perfection.
