As the end of the week treat we have a nice random words creative writing prompts exercise. This type of writing prompts are certainly one of my absolute favorites, mainly because you are already given almost whole sentences which are, by default, better for inspiring entire stories and poems by themselves. Random phrases are also how I got into using writing prompts to help my writing so I am partial to them because of that as well. Anyway, the idea here is that you are given a set of random phrases which you must then string together into a complete story, poem or flash.
The random phrases prompts:
Brought experimentally
Incorporating an estimate box
Create infallible patching
Down otherwise
Verification sent repeatedly
Discriminate leaflet
Idealistic interest
We will meet, I hope
Ensuring elaborate texts
Fear attack today
The instructions:
Read the above random phrases and try to see, hear or imagine behind and in between them. Once the story grabs you, start writing immediately and don’t stop until you have finished it. Write for at least 30 minutes or more, if you can manage it. Try to finish the entire first draft in one sitting, even if all you are writing is barebones outline of the story which you will later fill in. Use all the phrases and let it sit awhile before going back to edit it.
