Creative Writing Prompts: Random Phrases to a Story #2

by Vanja on May 15, 2009

Time again for some random phrases as creative writing prompts to get you to write that story, poem, flash, scene or whatever else you might be working on or want to be working on or are dreaming on working on. Like I said already, writing a story from a set of given phrases is perhaps easier than doing it form just random words, since the phrases themselves already point you in a certain direction that the story must take. On the other hand though, just words do allow for greater creativity. Or do they. I must admit that I just love this weeks random phrases and have come up with a shell of a story just compiling them. Hopefully you will too!

So here are this week’s random phrases as writing prompts:

the parochial protest

stolen clock

generic comfort

drying magic

repent for the luxury

subtle release

random dash

and the noise thereof

goodness via prefix

honestly against silver

benefit removed by file

scary yet obligatory mercy ho

And the instructions are:

Write a story or poem using all of these phrases without altering them (too much). Don’t stop writing until you have the first draft finished or write for at least 30 minutes. And if after you have finished you feel like sharing your experience or story with others please drop us a line in the comments section.

Stay creative!
