Yesterday we had a story starter sentence as a creative writing prompt and today we have many…so to speak. What I mean is that today’s creative writing exercise is made up of random phrases, which you must integrate into a story somehow. The idea behind this writing exercise is to use the given phrases to write a story, poem or flash and the goal is to use all of the phrases in one piece of writing. You can always cut stuff out on the rewrite, but in the first draft you should try to use them all. Alternatively you can try your hand at writing very short stories, flashes or micro flashes, one from each of the random phrases.
The random phrases:
Stirred vanity
Footnote to a scream
Arrested creator
Pressing against
What for?
Luxury judgement
Reversed commandment
Inconsistent quota
Scored damnation
Remembering twin honestly
The instructions:
Read through the above list of phrases until a story starts to form in your mind from the given phrases. Once it happens start writing and try to finish the whole story in one sitting. Use all of the given phrases in the story. Once you are done set it aside for a day or two then return to it and write the second or even the third draft. here you may cut as much of it out, or add as much to it as you want. Alternatively you might want to write one story from each of the phrases. Keep these stories (or poems or whatever) under 500 words, but make sure they do have a beginning, middle and an end.
Good luck and stay creative!
