Ok, so I know that it is Friday, but that is no reason not to do some writing exercises now is it? if anything, Friday is the perfect day to do some creative exercises, since tomorrow is Saturday and most of you probably don’t have to get up early and go to work. Doing creative writing exercises really helps sharpen your writing skills, and more often than not very good stories get written as a result of “just doing a writing exercise.” This is most likely because the pressure is not so intense when just practicing and the imagination is given much more freedom.
Anyway, today we have random phrases as creative writing prompts. The idea behind this writing exercise is to use the given phrases to write a story, poem or flash. They are meant to spark an idea in your mind and you should use all of them to write something with a clear beginning, middle and end. But only a first draft, of course.
The random phrases:
Historically, they were challenged
Objective, north
Monica knew that she knew, but still wasn’t sure
Never, ever
Tress in the romantic light of early evening
Scheduled resurrection applying
Clearly an appalling mind
Exactly the fifth festival
Sincerely, though
The quest for content
The instructions:
Use all of the above phrases to write a story, flash, poem or whatever. First read through them until a story forms in your mind, then copy them out and start writing. Free write for at least 30 minutes, and in that time try to write an entire story from beginning to end. A few days later go back to it and edit it, writing the second or even the third draft. Then submit it for publication, perhaps, if you wish.
Stay creative!
