Creative Writing Prompts: Random Words to a Story #7

May 29, 2009

in Creative Writing Prompts

Today’s creative writing prompt is again in the form of random words, but with a twist. Instead of writing one long piece from the set of words, like you are used to, you should, in this creative writing exercise, write one very short story from each of the words. By short I mean what some people refer to as micro flash fiction, and basically it means that you should try to write complete stories in under 140 characters (kind of like this contest held on www.nycmidnight.com). And the good thing about this exercise is that you can post your stories on twitter and get some feedback there.

Anyway, here are 5 words and for each you should write a 140 character (with spaces and punctuation) story. Alternatively and if you really hate this creative writing exercise, you can just use all of the five words in one story. And remember, effective use of language, i.e. not one word too much, is the key here!

The List:

1. Exposure

2. Punch

3. Clothes

4. Advantage

5. Change

Good luck and stay creative!

Hey, thanks for the comment. And you should definitely try writing some flash fiction it’s so much fun! They’re just like tiny stories ;)
