Creative Writing Prompts: Story Starter Sentence #12

by Vanja on August 12, 2009

The idea behind the story starter sentence, which comprises this creative writing exercise, is that you are given a single sentence that you must then somehow incorporate into a story. It can be the first sentence, somewhere in the middle, or the mere meaning behind it can become the meaning behind the whole story. Though, the sentence itself should be used somewhere in the story as it appears in the exercise.

The sentence:

She stares towards the horizon a lot lately.

The instructions:

As always read through the sentence a few times and once you feel you have a story behind it worked out, start writing. Write for at least 30 minutes, though try to finish the story in one sitting. At least the skeleton of it, then go back and flesh it out later, once you’ve had a few days’ break from it.

Stay creative!
