I hope you have completed the first creative writing exercise of this week because, guess what, it is time for another. And I am quite sure that you just can’t wait. Today we have the random sentence creative writing prompts, which basically means that I give you a sentence and ask you to write a complete story or flash from. This exercise is perhaps less useful as a poem writing trigger, but you can always just take the “meaning” of the sentence and write a poem inspired by that. But those of you writing stories, flashed or even novels, please try to incorporate the entire sentence into the story, whether as a starter sentence or anywhere in the body of the story.
The story starter sentence:
I can, more or less, tell the time of day from the way the light changes, especially in the afternoons.
The instructions:
Read the above sentence through a few times, until a story starts to unfold around it in your mind. Once you are comfortable that you have a firm grasp on at least the beginning of the story, start writing. Write for at least 30 minutes, or for as long as you wish. Try to complete the entire first draft in this sitting, then come back to edit it all a few days later, allowing it to settle a bit first.
