Picture Prompts: In the Rain

by Vanja on June 26, 2009

It is once again time for a picture to spark a story in our imagination and let us create, let us express ourselves and all that good stuff. The main idea behind picture writing prompts is that one is shown an image and that image is supposed to inspire us to write a story or a poem or a flash. The picture prompts, as such, acts as a sort of link between the subconscious and conscious mind of the wrier, allowing things otherwise hidden, to come to the surface and become gorgeous pieces of prose. Of course some pictures are better as creative writing prompts than other, but really most of the work is done by the writer and not the image.

The picture prompt:

The instructions:

Look at the above image until a story behind it starts to unfold in your mind. Once that happens put the picture prompt somewhere where you can see it for further inspiration and start writing. Free write the story or poem or flash that the picture inspired in your mind. Try to write without pause for at least 30 minutes and definitely no less than 15. Edit what you have written only after you have written the whole thing or, at least, as much as you had planned to write.

Until next time…

Stay creative!
