Today we have picture prompts as creative writing prompts since they do seem to be everyone’s favorite. And why shouldn’t they be? There is just something very creative and inspiring about being given pictures. In fact some writers “see” the stories they want to write as though watching a movie, as opposed to others who merely see the words and the sentences, which is great too. The general idea behind picture writing prompts is to look at a given picture and try to see, to imagine a story behind it. Usually, any picture if focused on long enough will inspire a story, since the picture prompt only really represents a link between the conscious and the unconscious mind, the latter being the place where stories come from.
The picture prompt:
The instructions:
Look at the above picture and try to see how it could fit into a story, or try to see a story behind it. Once inspiration strikes, start writing. Write the entire story, if you can, but definitely write continuously for at least 30 minutes. Don’t worry so much about the style of your writing, at this stage it is only important that a story emerges, you can edit it later, once you have the first draft done. Try to silence your internal critic as much as you can, and just let the words flow. Once you are done set it aside for a few days, and then come back to it and finish it.
Stay creative!
