Picture Prompts: The Cottage

by Vanja on June 12, 2009

There’s already been a picture prompt this week, I know, but I really love these so I decided to make it Friday’s creative writing exercise as well. The idea behind the picture writing prompts creative writing exercise is to be shown a picture of whatever, pretty much, and then allow that image to inspire a story or a poem in your mind. It is an excellent exercise in creativity, especially since nothing, no words or sentences or phrases, stand between you and your inspiration…except the image.

The photo prompt:

The instructions:

Look at the photo until you start to imagine a story or poem behind it. Sit down and write out that story. Write for at least 30 minutes and try to finish the whole story in one sitting. Strictly speaking it doesn’t have to be a whole story, it could just be scene from a story, something you can use later somewhere else, but it should have a beginning, middle and end.

So get writing and stay creative!
