Today is again time for another one of those great creative writing prompts also known as picture prompts, or in other words picture prompts that help you write a short story, poem, flash fiction or anything else.
The main goal of this creative writing exercise is to look at the picture and try to imagine the story behind it: What is it like living in this place? Where is this place? Who lives in this place? Well, you get the idea, …
Overall, picture prompts are great for sparking creativity, they’re not as imposing as word or sentence writing prompts yet work much the same way. Triggering a story through and image. And that is what this site is all about: Triggering Stories , so
Look at the picture for a few minutes or as long as it takes for you to start imagining the story behind this door, or in front of this door, or off to the left of this door, or… Once you have the story in your head (or the words to a poem, or whatever else you are writing) write for at least 15 minutes. You might want to just free write at first or start the story right off, which ever you prefer.
And after you are done with this one you might like to check out these other picture prompts (for another day perhaps):

Picture Prompts: The Stairs to Somewhere
I hope you enjoyed this creative writing exercise and until next time: Stay Creative!

This is my students piece of writing for this picture
The Door
Being stuck in here is the worst, nothing to do and no one to play with. Its to boring. Everyday I wonder what’s on the other side of the this door, is it the same as in here or different?
I all remember is waking up one morning and ending up behind this door. Every morning I wake up at 7:00, eat breakfast go to a very unusual school for 8 hours and go home and eat and sleep and do the same thing the next day.
Everyday I try to climb over the door but nothing works. Sometimes I go to the forest that surrounds. I don’t have anything, anything at all! Me and my family got separated by this door and there is no people around but me.
It’s been 27 days. On the 27th I went into the forest, I hear the crunching of the leaves beneath my bare feet. I see something engraved on a tree it says “Missing since 1999″, it’s been 12 years. That must mean I’m missing! I need to get out of here before it is to late.
On the 28th day i noticed a lock on the door. I knew that I needed to find the key and now.
Very touching and quite profound! Thank you for sharing. How old is your student, if you don’t mind me asking?
This is a very good story. I am going to write about this picture! I have to find a picture to write about, I think this would be a good one and I can get my creativity flowing on this one. So many ways you can write about this. The story was a good one keep up the good work.
