Picture Prompts: The Door To Somewhere

by Vanja on April 29, 2009

Today is again time for another one of those great creative writing prompts also known as picture prompts, or in other words picture prompts that help you write a short story, poem, flash fiction or anything else.

The main goal of this creative writing exercise is to look at the picture and try to imagine the story behind it: What is it like living in this place? Where is this place? Who lives in this place? Well, you get the idea, …

Overall, picture prompts are great for sparking creativity, they’re not as imposing as word or sentence writing prompts yet work much the same way. Triggering a story through and image. And that is what this site is all about: Triggering Stories , so

Look at the picture for a few minutes or as long as it takes for you to start imagining the story behind this door, or in front of this door, or off to the left of this door, or… Once you have the story in your head (or the words to a poem, or whatever else you are writing) write for at least 15 minutes. You might want to just free write at first or start the story right off, which ever you prefer.
