Today it is time for picture prompts, for letting a picture tell us a story. The idea behind using picture as creative writing prompts is that you are shown a picture or a photo and you must look at it until a story begins to form in your mind. Usually it does not take very long, since images are great for inspiring yet more images in our minds and with enough images, pretty soon you have a complete story or poem or piece of flash fiction. Any which way, you have a story written, you have done some writing practice and you are one step closer to becoming a better and more accomplished writer.
This week’s picture writing prompt is more serene as the other, which does not mean that the stories that emerge from it must be.

Look at the image for a few minutes or as long as it takes for a story to start emerging from it. Once you have a good hold on that story sit down and write it out form start to finish. Or at least as much as you have been able to come up with so far in case it is meant to be a longer work. Try to write at least a page, which is about 1000 words if you’re writing on the computer, or about 3 pages in a journal if you’re writing by hand. Only after you have the complete first draft should you go back and edit it. If you want, wait a few days before doing so because you’ll be returning to it with fresh eyes then.
