Once again it is time to try to be inspired to be inspired by a single image, time for letting a picture tell us a story. The idea with this type of creative writing exercise is that you are shown a picture and you must look at that picture long enough for it to inspire you to write a story that the image is trying to communicate to you. If you are more of a visual writer, in the sense that you see the scenes that you write in your mind, then picture writing prompts are probably the perfect exercise for you. They give you a starting point, the first image and thereby open the door to the entire story.
The picture writing prompt:
The instructions:
As per usual, immerse yourself in the image and try to image, guess, see, hear, etc. the story behind it, or rather beyond the borders of the picture. Once this happens, and it sure will, start writing and do not stop until you have the entire first draft finished. It does not need to be perfect, that’s what editing is for. In any case try to write for at least 30 minutes and once you are done, let the story or poem that you have written rest for a few days before returning to fix it up.
Stay creative!
